This Self-Portrait mermaid (doesn’t it scream Ariel?!) dress is my favorite dress of all time! I just had to say that right away because it’s the dress of my dreams. I finally was able to wear it after it was hanging in my closet for a few months. Way back in January, while in Austin, Texas, my cousin and I stumbled upon the best luxury consignment shop ever, Moss. I highly recommend shopping there if you’re in town, but get this – you can also shop through their Instagram. I know, amazing. I just had to have this dress even though I had no idea where to wear it. Come full circle, a few weeks ago I was invited to attend the Starving Artist Silent Auction Benefit. Since my dress was a piece of art, it only made sense that this would be the place to wear it 😉
For those not familiar with the Chicago Artists Coalition Starving Artist, it’s an annual event where artists’ work is displayed and culinary experts share their art, food. This is a great way for both worlds to collide and to bring attention to the arts, which I’m a big fan of!!
Check out these chefs and restaurants because everything they served was delicious:
- Chef Michael Coté of Balena
- Chef Nathan Sears of Das Radler
- Chef Evan Behmer of Mercat a la Planxa
- Piccolo Sogno
- Scone City
- Pork and Mindy’s
- Garrett popcorn
- Shawn Doolin of Venue One
- The Eastman Egg Company
- Mariano’s
- Chef Jason Hammel of Lula Cafe
- And sweet sounds from DJ Michael Slaboch & an amazing photo booth
I will definitely let you know about next year’s event as soon as I find out because this is an event you don’t want to miss.

I can’t believe you found a Self-Portrait dress at a thrift store! I am dying to buy one.
I know – I couldn’t believe it either!
