Smile Brilliant Smile 🙂  It’s easier said than done, sometimes. When I was first approached by Smile Brilliant about their custom-fitted teeth whitening trays, I was so excited. The product and process seemed so easy, so I was like great – my teeth could use some extra loving. But I have to be honest here, the initial excitement rubbed off once I had to do before up-close photos to send in.

I have had issues with my teeth my entire life. I guess I don’t really think about my teeth issues on the daily, but this collaboration made me overthink them. I’ve had braces, expanders and retainers and for some reason none of these worked on straightening my teeth or closing up my overbite. So over the years, I feel like I kind of gave up on teeth appearance maintenance and all the coffee I drink doesn’t help either. I still go and get my teeth professionally cleaned every six months.

This collaboration brought up so many feelings. I definitely love to laugh and smile all the time, but then it got me thinking if people were looking at my teeth. I know it shouldn’t matter, but it does. I also know that most people who I talk to aren’t deliberately staring at my teeth. My motto is that you have to look good, to feel good to good and I was definitely not feeling good. I had to give myself a pep talk before I pressed send to get the before photos approved. Then I had to give myself another pep talk when the kit arrived. And then another pep talk to actually start using the product. I shouldn’t have procrastinated that long because the process was quite easy to use and I was just thinking too much.

I found out that I have very sensitive gums while I was applying the whitening gels; therefore, I kept the gel trays in for about forty-five minutes after brushing my teeth with only water. Make sure to apply a lot of Vaseline on your gums if you, too, have sensitive gums. You can leave them on up to three hours a day per day. After removing the gel trays, I brushed my teeth with toothpaste and put on the desensitizing gel trays for about fifteen minutes. You can eat or drink for thirty minutes after removing the desensitizing gel trays, so I usually did this process at night. Each syringe can last up to three times.

I did see some change in the coloring of my teeth and I feel a little bit more confident and I put those negative thoughts behind me again. If this process has taught me anything, it’s that you should feel confident in your skin and that you are your own worse critic, so stop thinking negative thoughts, be your true self and smile big 🙂
