How To Wear A Summer Dress In The Winter

Tie it up to give yourself a defined waist. You can also wear a sweater over the dress and don’t be afraid to add color! A bright sweater can definitely change your mood in an instant! You can even wear a chambray shirt and a sweater for some extra warmth!

Since the weather in Chicago, changes constantly (remember last weekend when it was 70 degrees?!), I like to keep my entire wardrobe in my closet. I used to pack away seasonal items, but now I just keep everything out all the time and layer or de-layer accordingly. This way, I get more wear out of my clothes than just when they are in season, per se.

I’ve been requested to write a post about how to create the perfect arm soirée for quite some time now and I finally got around to it (you’re welcome DNB)! I have perfected this art form in just three easy steps.

  • Step 1: wear bangles or loose bracelets.
  • Step 2: wear a stretchy or chunky bracelet to help block the bangles or loose bracelets from falling out of place.
  • Step 3: wear your favorite time piece to keep the party in line.

I like to mix up my metals and plastics and I usually keep some of the same bracelets in constant rotation. The same goes with my time pieces. It’s important to either have a gold, silver or black band time piece because it is a statement just in itself and never goes out of style. I’m looking to add a gray and burgundy time piece this season to my collection just because I have a slight obsession with them (especially Timex). Again, leather, metal or plastic bands for time pieces are based on preferences.

For step 1, I get my bangles in packs at Urban Outfitters or Forever 21 because they’re reasonably priced and they usually have a wide variety of choices. Then for step 2, I like wearing a designer thicker bracelet – I usually invest in these because I can always wear them solo as well. These I like to stalk my favorite sites for just that right piece to add to my collection. Nordstrom, Piperlime and Yoox have great selections. Modcloth and Anthropologie have some unique pieces that are great for mixing and matching.

The last unique tidbit to the perfect arm soirée is that I tend to only wear them on my right hand, even though I’m right handed. I have no idea how I started wearing them only on my right hand, but I like it this way because the focus is isolated and unique.

Remember, each soirée should be unique and express your personal style and have fun with different combinations.
